Executive Transition Management (or ETM) is the new term for plans made by boards in the event of a sudden or planned departure of their executive. With the baby boom generation approaching retirement, a large segment of the current executives in nonprofit organizations will need to be replaced. Very important to all organizations is the development of the professional leadership team and the vision necessary to govern its on-going development; its succession plan to identify future positions and qualifications; its evaluation of internal talent; and its transition planning process and timeline. Planning for this eventuality is critical to ensure a smooth transition and to give the organization the opportunity to consider any restructuring and reorganization that may be appropriate at that time.
The Center for Nonprofit Excellence (CNE) offers comprehensive management support and capacity building services for nonprofit organizations. CNE assists organizations with their executive transition management needs. This includes assistance with the tasks listed above as well as pre-transition executive coaching/consulting; leadership and management training to prepare the organization for the transition; identifying/locating an Interim Director; and providing assistance for the new executive.
CNE customers utilizing this service will have their open executive positions identified on this page, as well as in other appropriate and agreed upon posting locations.
