The Roger Read Resource Center is named for CNE’s first Board Chair, Roger Read. It is now both a physical and a virtual source for nonprofit organizations to access information and to find the correct answers to their management questions. It is housed in CNE’s new office space where it is easily accessible to nonprofit professionals who want to review or read a book, access online data via a guest computer station, and talk one-to-one to the Center’s experienced nonprofit professionals who will provide assistance and guidance in all areas of nonprofit management.
The Resource Center also provides professional development opportunities for nonprofit board and staff through training and peer learning sessions, as well as informal networking opportunities. E-mails on new developments in the field, as well as notification of CNE events and opportunities provide ongoing communication to over 1,500 nonprofit professionals on a regular basis.
The CNE website, www.cfnpe.org, is the virtual Resource Center that extends CNE’s reach across the country and the world, providing basic information on a wide variety of topics related to nonprofit management and governance, as well as links to other sites we have found to be useful and reliable. To send a request for information to CNE, just complete the How Can We Help? form.
Since the Resource Center services began in 2002, we have responded (through 2007) to over 1200 requests for information and assistance from individuals and organizations, and more than 4600 participants from over 1000 organizations have attended over 155 CNE Training programs.
Some comments from Resource Center customers:
“Thank you for being a quick guide through this maze.”
“I feel I have a place to go to get support for dealing with problems.”
“The information I learned through training impacted my work in the nonprofit sector. I am better equipped to deal with board members, donors and the community. I understand the responsibility of board and staff better and have recently accepted a board position with another organization and feel confident I will work effectively in that setting.”
“(CNE’s work) fostered dynamic group discussion; evoked ideas and challenged board members to think consistently about (our organization) and how to make it better.”
“Our Board meetings have improved. They are shorter and more focused and we were able to approve a mission statement in only a few meetings.”
